The Captioned Telephone Service is very similar to closed caption on television in that text captions of what’s said appear during the course of conversation. The Captioned Telephone utilizes the Captioned Telephone Service to display live captions during your call on a large, easy-to-read display.

How do I know if I need a Captioned Telephone?

The Captioned Telephone is designed for people who have trouble hearing telephone calls on their standard phone. Whether your hearing loss is a result of age or injury or even prolonged exposure to loud conditions, the Captioned Telephones are meant for you. Both of the phones also feature +40dB of amplification for occasions when you’d like to turn up the volume.

Do I need special phone service to enjoy the benefits of a Captioned Telephone?

No... the service is FREE for US residents. The Captioned Telephone Service (CTS) is federally funded under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and administered by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

What are the hours of operation for the Captioned Telephone Service?

The service that your Captioned Telephone uses is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, and 365 days a year. It’s ready whenever you need it!

Are my phone calls confidential?

The FCC mandates that, as a Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS), the captioned service complies with the most stringent confidentiality laws.

Captioned Telephone Service Registration

Am I required to register my Captioned Telephone?

Yes. Based on the regulations set forth by the FCC, all users of the Captioned Telephone Service must submit proper registration.

How do I register?

All of the details that you will need for the easy registration process are included in the box of your new Captioned Telephone.

If I do not register, will my Captioned Telephone still work?

Your Captioned Telephone will still work for standard incoming or outgoing telephone calls but, per FCC regulations, you will not receive captions until your phone is fully registered.

What happens with my registration information?

Your registration is not used for promotional or marketing purposes. Registration information is kept secure and confidential in full accordance with the requirements of the FCC.

Your Captioned Telephone requires the following: telephone service, a high-speed Internet connection, and an available home electrical outlet.

Will these Captioned Telephones work with VOIP service?

Yes, either of the Captioned Telephones that you’ll choose here, traditional or touchscreen, are compatible with VOIP service.

What is a DSL filter? Do I need one?

A DSL filter is a special device that is required to prevent interference when using your Captioned Telephone with a Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) service. If you’re not familiar with the term DSL, it’s not likely that this information applies to you.
